Adult Book Discussion - Long IslandTuesday November 12, 2024
7:00 PM until 8:00 PM
Join us as we discuss the book Long Island by Colm Toibin. Ellis Lacey is Irish, married to Tony Fiorello, a plumber and one of four Italian American brothers, all of who live in neighborhood houses on a cul-de-sac in Lindenhurst, Long Island, with their wives and children and Tony's parents, a huge extended family that lives, works, eats and plays together. It is 1976 and Ellis, in her forties with two teenage children, has no one to rely on in this still-new country. One day, when Tony is at his job and Ellis is in her home office doing her accounting, and Irishman comes to the door, telling her that his wife is pregnant with Tony's child and than when the baby is born, he will not raise it, but instead deposit it on Ellis' doorstep.
